The History of The Pomander

In medieval Europe foul smells were believed to create imbalance in the body, a perceived threat to one’s health. Perforated containers stuffed with flowers, spices, and herbs, called pomanders were introduced as a necessary remedy. The pleasant fragrance emitted from a pomander was believed to offer protection against malodours, and therefore ensure one’s health and harmony was maintained. It is this amulet of protection that has become both Pomander’s muse and philosophy.

What We Believe

Pomander keeps flowers as a kind of medicine at the forefront of all floral designs. Whether for special events, or every day, we never underestimate that the presence of blooms can offer an important sense of harmony. Running counter to the fast-pace our society has become accustomed, Pomander’s designs seek to create reminders to slow down and enjoy the magic each season offers. After all, it is during the time that we “stop to smell the flowers” that we are offered a respite from all else.

Pomander is a woman-owned home-based floral company located in Montreal’s West Island. Wild meadows, idyllic countrysides, and sombre forests all lend inspiration to Pomander’s aesthetic. We offer flowers for everyday bouquets and arrangements, weddings, funerals, and corporate events.

When you purchase from Pomander you are supporting local business and women entrepreneurs.
